Overview
Craps is definitely the fastest and
the most exciting casino game. Even though one one
person gets to throw the dice at at time, the game
is exciting for all. Nine out of ten times, if you
hear loud people or hollering, it's coming from a
craps table.
The game of craps is played with
two dice, each with six sides (same style dice you
use in a board game at home), a craps table, and
casino employees (up to four sometimes) that run the
table.
The design of the table and the
menu of bets that feel like they could go on for
days are what make this casino game look
intimidating. Don't let looks fool you here, the
basic objective of this exciting game is pretty
simple. The idea is to bet on whether the person
throwing the dice will be able to actually roll a
winning combination.
Craps players simply wager on the
roll of the dice.
The table is designed to hold up to
12 players. Remember, it only look difficult be
cause there are so many different combos that you
can wager on. Since there are 6 sides two each of
the two dice, there are 36 different combinations
that can be rolled.
So, if you think about it, there is
only one way you can roll a two or twelve. Another
example is that there is 2 ways you can roll a three
and so on. To figure out your true odds, divide 36
by the number of possible ways to actually roll the
number and there you have it. One example, the odds
of rolling a 3 is 1 in 18. Divide 36 by 2, you get
18.
Alright, you will see (depending on
the amount of people playing) up to 4 casino workers
people running the table. You have a boxman -
this person is in charge of the middle of the table,
watching bets. You have a stickman - this
person is right across the table from the boxman
and basically in charge of the dice. Dice are
changed out all the time due to the use of crooked
dice (irregularly weighted dice that are made by
crooks and predisposed to land on a certain number).
Now on either side of the boxman, at each end
of the table is a dealer. They handle all the money
and chips. The boxman is also there to
communicate any wager disputes and to let the
dealers know about winners and the like.
Craps is a team effort for players,
you will see that many players will lose or win
together all the time.
Game Play
Now, you are ready to place a bet.
Make your way to the edge of the table and lay your
bet down on a line - don't place your bet in the
actual space where the number is. Putting your wager
on the line will let the dealer know you want to
wager. Then the dealer will inquire as to your bet (ie:
place bets or buy bets, more on this
below). The dealer is the one to move the chips to
the right spot. As far as pass and don't
pass bets go, you will be able to do this on
your own, the dealer will show you where.
Come Out Roll -
Crapshooter's first roll before establishing a point
- or after making a point.
Place Bets - Bet that the
number you wager on will be rolled before a 7 is
rolled.
Buy Bets - A right bet on a
box number that the house pays off at true odds.
Come Bets - Made after
the come out roll that the shooter will
win if the next roll is is considered a come
out roll.
Don't Come Bets - A bet made
after the come out roll that the shooter will
lose if the next roll is considered a come
out roll.
Pass Bet - Betting
that the shooter will win.
Don't Pass Bet - Betting
that the shooter will lose.
