Top female poker players still in the WSOP

July 5

Even though woman are sweeping up major winnings from online casino poker tournaments these days, a female player has not been able to win the World Series of Poker. In the WSOP's 35-year history (this being the 36th tourney), only one woman has even made it to the final table.

This year, numerous women have jockeyed themselves into position as top runners poised to win this year's tournament in Vegas. Like online casino poker gaming, this might finally be the end of male dominance in the WSOP.

Many fans believe this could be the year indeed. At the top of the list is Jennifer Harman. This Vegas native is one of the best players you will find at any poker table. She came-in 2nd in a WSOP circuit championship event earlier this year.

Harman is among the many women who should be watched closely during this tournament. Approximately 6,600 players will be playing for nearly $62 million - the grand prize could reach an incredible $10 million.

Another great female player to watch for is Annie Duke, she even defeated her older brother and a handful of other poker legends in 2004, acquiring two million dollars at the WSOP's Tournament of Champions.

Other female players of interest include Kathy Liebert and Cyndy Violette.

In 2004, Suzanne Carpenter ranked 21st out of the 2,576 players who entered the main event. Women only accounted for 5% of the 2004 players. This year, the percentage of female players will probably only increase by a small amount, but the ones that do play are good.
