Bank
clerk stole B26m to cover gambling debts
August 15
Here is
one major reason why gambling
addiction, whether it stems
from online casino play, sports betting
or land casino gambling, is really bad
news.
A former
Thai bank clerk who was wanted for
allegedly helping himself to 2 different
bank customer's hard earned money was
arrested yesterday in
Chiang Rai. The ex-bank employee
reportedly removed a total of
26 million baht from
customers' fixed accounts during a 5
year period.
The 40 year-old was taking the money
from two fixed deposit accounts that
belonged to customers he knew that
didn't check their deposits and account
balances on a regular basis.
The
theft took place while he was an
employee of
Kasikornbank's Phahon
Yothin branch.
An
investigation into the account theft was
commenced when it was noticed by the
bank that certain bank account balances
were not befitting of recent deposits
being made. Shortly there after a police
report was made in the investigation.
After
the investigation was underway by the
bank, the employee accused of the theft
fled. He was reportedly hiding out near
gambling facilities in order to keep
gambling due to an addiction he was
nursing.
Apparently, Mr. Anan has a serious
sports gambling addiction to soccer and
was wagering some ten thousand
baht per game. After amassing a major
gambling debt due to his inability to
quit, he took money from the bank
accounts to cover the debts. He started
wagering on games back in 1999, around
the sam time bank accounts were being
depleted.
