Hurricane in Gulf Coast
destroys area casinosAugust 31
While many of the details from the
destruction caused to area casinos from the
massive Hurricane Katrina are still coming
to light, it almost seems that gambling is
the last thing on the minds of the hundreds
of thousands of people affected directly
from the disaster.
On the other hand, casino revenue from
all the Louisiana and Mississippi Coast
casinos that will be lost is staggering.
Harrah's in New Orleans alone stands to lose
up to a million dollars a day until the
casino is opened again. The other closest
casino to it is a riverboat casino that
docks just outside New Orleans on the
Mississippi River. There is still no word on
the damage that casino boat has undertaken.
The Harrah's casino has reportedly taken on
moderate damage including roof damage that
caused some water to come in through it.
Apparently the structure is mostly sound and
on a higher piece of land. 80% of New
Orleans is completely flooded at this time.
In Mississippi, all of the casinos that
dotted the shoreline to cities like Gulfport
and Biloxi are reportedly just about
completely destroyed. In fact, one film crew
witnessed the Palace Casino Resort sink into
the Gulf from flooding and storm surge.
It is obviously not known at this time
just how long it will take to get the area
back up and running. One thing many online
casino players out there need to consider
ids that these Mississippi casinos were a
major part of the local economy. Without
them, millions and millions of dollars will
be sorely missed.
We are very saddened to see such
devastation to such a wonderful part of the
US landscape. Many people loved flying into
Biloxi to play at the casinos, we only hope
that the great people of the stricken area
will become stronger than ever before.
